The Double Decker Arts Festival returns to Oxford, Mississippi for its 22nd year on April 28th and 29th! MaxxSouth Broadband is proud to be back on board as a top sponsor of the event!
The festival gets its name from Oxford’s iconic red double-decker bus. The bus, imported from England in 1994, is used for tours and transporting locals and visitors around town. Oxford, Mississippi itself takes its name from Oxford, England.
The Double Decker Arts Festival had very humble beginnings, using the bed of an old pickup truck as the main stage and hosting only a few vendors. Today, the 2-day long festival is one of Oxford’s largest; held around the historic Courthouse Square and drawing in crowds of more than 65,000 people! The event has received more than 25 awards, including the title of Best Festival by Mississippi Magazine and being named a Top 20 event by the Southeast Tourism Society!
The particularly strong and diverse live musical performances are a featured attraction of the Double Decker. This year’s lineup is no different; with acts such as Jimmy “Duck” Holmes, a special edition of the Thacker Mountain Radio Hour, Muddy Magnolias, The Mississippians Jazz Ensemble, Amelia Eisenhauer and the Peruvian Farm Girls, Robert Finley, Seratones, James McMurtry, Luther Dickinson, Dr. John & the Nite Trippers, and Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats, performing throughout the weekend!
Other attractions include more than 160 art vendors showcasing pieces from a wide range of mediums; including drawings, glassware, jewelry, paintings, photography, prints, and sculptures. Of course, there will be a wide selection of foods on hand, with many local vendors offering specialty items only available during the event! Children’s activities will be offered at the Square Fair, located in the public parking lot behind the Oxford-University Club.
